Main Function
Counselling Services
Counselors are committed to serve students in their career and other needs that may require professional counseling support. As an integral part of the Students’ Affairs Division, the Career and Counselling Unit promotes by extending support services to staff of the University. The counseling aspect of the services provides systematic and creative psycho-social therapies that emphasize non-clinical practice while clinical related cases are referred to Health Unit. These are in a bid to ensure qualitative service delivery in provision of overall wellness of students and staff. The Unit works in conjunction with other collaborating agencies as well as with other Departments and Units to enhance the overall conducive campus climate.
Appointment can be made by registering through www.counselling2u.uitm.edu.my. Although appointments are usually between 8:30am to 4.30pm every Monday to Friday, further contact hours are provided based on the needs of the client. Appointments are granted on by counselling2u website, walk-in basis or even by phone call or any social media platform. Hence, clients are encouraged to make an appointment in advance if they would like to meet with Counselors.
From the first appointment, all transactions are highly confidential (Counsellor Act 1998). The Counselors are enthusiastic to attend to clients at all appointments and to offer non-clinical diagnosis to clients to evaluate their case before proffering whatever support services or resources that would be appropriate. Some clients do find out that talking with a counsellor once is sufficient to resolve their immediate worries or concerns. However, if further services would be required, these will be discussed and recommendations will be made.
The Counselling Unit also provides urgent services to offer support to students with psycho-social needs and other peculiar concerns all days of the week. Besides, referral services rendered by the Faculty or other Division/Unit are often accompanied by appropriate follow-ups.

Career development offer students guidance and advice as well as various training modules aimed at supporting study and career planning and high quality placement in working life after graduation. Making effective career decisions includes having enough relevant and reliable information available, combined with the ability to integrate the information with what they know about themselves, their career vision and goals.

Counsellor will firstly, be able to explain the entire report, tell them the perks and disadvantages of pursuing both their interests and aptitudes, and give them the clarity and understanding to make the right decisions. This is much needed, especially, when students are prone to taking advice from inexperienced sources.
