The UiTM Sarawak Library started simultaneously with the establishment of ITM (now UiTM) Sarawak Branch Campus in 1973. Situated at Batu Lintang Teachers' Training College, the Campus was relocated at Semenggok in 1987 before moving to Samariang in 1989 and finally at the present site at Samarahan in 1997.
Starting with a meagre collection of 668 books and 100 members, the UiTM Sarawak Library expanded, parallel with the academic activities. To date, the library houses a collection of 53,454 books besides other forms of print and non-print materials as well as a few databases. The present membership stands at roughly 5,300 comprising mainly UiTM students, lecturers, administrative staff and outsiders.
Objectives
- To assist in study, teaching, research and development programmes.
- To be an excellent library in all aspects of services, varieties of collection, information-seeking technologies, and up-to-date sources of information.
- To provide trained, skilful, responsible, committed, motivated with high ethical standards, proactive and excellent personnels through education and training.
Functions
- Circulation ( include books on-loan, registration of library membership, renewal and reservation of books and inter-library loan services ). {Students and staff are eligible to be members of the library.}
